Portal to Consciousness :. Vessel to Source

Cynthia Douaiher is a Lebanese contemporary abstract artist here to enlighten and translate consciousness into the physical by experiencing the infinite in the miracle of the NOW.

Coming from Lebanon in a time of war and extreme political turmoil, she got pushed out of her home to find herself somewhere else in the world. That somewhere is San Francisco.

She started painting when she was able to hold a brush. Her early works were majorly influenced by impressionism molded into the abstract, where she ventured through both styles to create her own. Growing up in the Middle East, a society that dictates women’s actions and words, she had the spirit of a rebel. She moved against the current with grace and widened her way of perception beyond the norms presented to her. She was a free bird that didn’t belong to a place but to a mindset, a concept of freedom, expression and creativity. She valued freedom above all. She wanted to feel free to be herself rather than fight for it.

When she moved to California, covid hit and a huge explosion struck the heart of her home country leaving her helpless and scared for her family and every person she ever cared for. Her country was in ruins, touching rock-bottom every passing day. Art was her escape, her haven, her safe. Confined in a house for two years, she would fly away into the vast unknown to play with consciousness as if it were her friend, support and ally.

This is when she realized she was totally taken by source and gave herself to be a vessel, a portal to divine revelations and enlightenment.

She forgets her identity completely, losing track of space/time to transcend into the arms of pure energy and bring back to the present state whatever is handed down to her by the cosmos.

She lets go of herself, the individual, the biological entity, of skin and scars, to become one with all, everything and everyone.

If you ask her why does she paint, she answers: “I have to; it is like breathing, the reason I exist; a strong internal urge that I cannot shake off. Being away from creating is being away from myself.”

The artist is an extremely emotional being that dives head-on into the deepest points of the human psyche. She is forced by her own nature to touch extreme poles of nature’s duality. She accepts the extreme ups and downs, the yin yangs, until they are one and the same, calling the whole shenanigan “the creative process”.

Paintings unveil themselves to her as if yearning for her attention, to be heard, seen and translated to others. They knock on her brain constantly so she opens the door. Once it is open, an endless and infinite stream of consciousness spills out. At this point, she has no choice but to surrender to her destiny, the reason she was created.

Her interest in science, specifically quantum physics, cosmology, numerology, philosophy, math, music, astronomy, astrology, history, mythology, spirituality, religion, and the sacred teachings greatly affect the concepts behind her creations. Her first extended collection “Fractal Multiverse” portrays sacred geometry and deep intellectual notions. Her approach was to always create a body that enlightens and expands the viewer’s mind. She cared about spreading awareness of our true reality, exploring the spaces between what is visible to the naked eye. There was never a threshold except to dive even deeper every step of the way. No limits. To explore what is not there, or in other words, what is there but not seen. She felt the unseen and needed to bring it to the surface. Knowing that it is all one, the journey is the masterpiece.

Everything and everyone is one. She felt it all.

At a young age, she travelled the world with her family. That helped accumulate knowledge out of her comfort zone and widened her empathy and appetite for discovery. She loves people. She loves places. She sees beauty in all the details and the serendipity behind the all. To her, every quantum moment is a miracle.

As Hemingway mentioned: “Someone said I don’t believe in miracles. I reply, you may talk and while I am listening, miracles are happening.”

Her latest collection COSMOS 222 is inspired by nuances of the heavens above. Her vast intrigue in the chaotic yet orderly system of the universe lead her obsession and pushed her to be in tune with the energy swirling our complex reality.

Her style is described as eclectic and intriguing. To her, the beauty in the abstract is the ability to leave an open-ended discovery of the self through the work. She cares about helping people know themselves and that’s a big part of why she creates art in the first place.

As Jesus said: “Know thyself.”
